TMMS 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Classes
Ms. Kari (Kari Schein)
Middle School Teacher
kschein@tmesnm.com
Bio:
I have been involved in Montessori for 16 years. Wow, how time flies. I was trained in New York City at CMTE/NY where I acquired my Elementary 6-12 Certificate. Throughout my teaching career I have worked for Center for Montessori Teacher Education/NY, Montana Montessori Teacher Education Institute/ MT and Montessori of the Colorado Rockies/ CO as a Montessori Teacher Trainer and Field Consultant. I earned a BA in Interpersonal Communications from University of Montana, and took my first job at a local Humane Society to teach pet education. It was through this job I became involved in Education, more specifically Montessori…and then began my second career. My first teaching job was at Kalispell Montessori Center in Montana. Over fourteen years ago I was lured to the Southwest to teach at The Montessori School of Albuquerque, (the former private school) and I am reminded how long I have been teaching here in Albuquerque by the fact that two of my former 1st-3rd grade students have graduated from High School and worked as Educational Assistants at TMES in 2008/2009.
Taking a year off from teaching in the classroom, I worked at TMES as the Montessori Mentor and Director of Curriculum Development. This was a special year to work directly with the teachers and assistants. I also spent time teaching Montessori education and parenting skills to our families, but the classroom kept calling me back, although in a different capacity…a middle school, TMMS. This is the second year of the middle school and it has been so exciting to embark on this journey with our community of adolescents. I continue to be amazed at the Montessori pedagogy, and have so enjoyed learning about and creating an environment for the Montessori adolescent.
When I am not grading papers, I can be found outdoors! My husband, daughter (a TMMS student!) and I enjoy all that nature has to offer so you can usually find us climbing rocks, skiing, biking, or running. Actually, I'm the only one who likes to run! In my down time I enjoys knitting, reading and baking!

I am so excited to join the TMMS team and work with our amazing 6 th year students this year!
I was born in New Mexico, at Kirtland AFB, and despite moving at regular intervals in my life, I've always ended up back in Albuquerque. I spent two years studying biology at Florida State University, then transferred, and later graduated with a Wildlife Science degree from New Mexico State. I embarked on a two year Peace Corps assignment in the Philippines after graduating. This experience developed my understanding of other cultures, other lifestyles, and really, other realities that exist in our world. It was during my Peace Corps experience that I developed a passion for education, both in sharing with others and continuing my own.
I have a Masters of Education from UNM and Montessori certification through NAMC.
My life has been blessed with an amazing family and great friends. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our fluffy Pomeranian.
Ms. Susie (Susie Mazarr-Proo)
Middle School Teacher

Bio:
I'm excited and honored to be teaching at TMMS this year. I received my B.U.S. from the University of New Mexico and completed a Masters in Elementary Education last December. I am certified in Montessori education, receiving my Montessori training at NAMC. I had worked for over 30 years in the field of medical and forensic toxicology in a hospital setting, state laboratory and in a private laboratory. I found the work stimulating and interesting but felt that a career change may be in order. I taught throughout my laboratory experience and knew I would like to be around the energy and joyfulness of children. Children are the soul of mankind and it is the reason I entered the teaching profession. As you can guess from reading my background, I love the sciences and am excited about teaching our middle school students.
My husband and son provide me with a wonderful family life. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy being outdoors exercising, camping or tending my garden. I have a houseful of pets and love music, as well as involving myself in artistic endeavors.
Mr. Kit (Christopher 'Kit' Hartman)
Educational Assistant
khartman@tmesnm.com
Bio:
Kit Hartman grew up in Bosque Farms, NM on his parents' horse farm. He is a graduate of Freedom High School and finished his BA degree in Secondary Education at the College of Santa Fe with a concentration in History, and Social Studies. During his student teaching experiences, he met graduates of TMES and was impressed by their maturity and achievement. He joined TMES to both experience elementary education, and gain insight into how Montessori methods enhance the educational process. His personal interests are New Mexico history, military history, military memorabilia, technology and motorcycling, but most of all, he treasures spending time with his two sons, Daniel and William.
Ms. Alissa (Alissa Sanchez)
Educational Assistant/Student Teacher

Bio:
I am so excited to be a TMMS Assistant this year! I really enjoyed being an EA at TMES last year and I am looking forward to another year with our wonderful Montessori students. I graduated from UNM with my BA in English and a minor in Art. Prior to the 2010-2011 school year, I worked as a substitute for APS, an independent child care provider and a volunteer in some wonderful TMES classrooms. I am currently finishing up my own schooling and anxiously anticipate completing my student teaching at TMMS in 2012!
I absolutely love spending time with my family, swimming, running, camping, painting and reading! Two of my sons are attending TMES this school year and will be in the 6-9 classrooms. Thank you for sharing your children with us.
