Bio:

Ms. Alissa was a "Montessori Kid" herself growing up in Las Vegas, NV.  She began teaching violin with the Suzuki method in 1997 in Flagstaff, AZ where she received her BA in Music from Northern Arizona University.  This degree included Suzuki training, violin/viola emphasis, from Louise Scott and Karen Hallberg.  Ms. Alissa was a founding teacher for a Northern Arizona satellite teaching program working in rural communities and public schools.  Moving back to Las Vegas, she again started an outreach program, this time for the 21 st century grant, targeting at-risk elementary students.  In 2003, she was given the "Emerging String Teacher of the Year" award for the state of Nevada from the American String Teachers' Association.  She said goodbye to Nevada in the summer of 2003 with a joint performance between her students and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Las Vegas.  Ms. Alissa then moved to Albuquerque to pursue graduate work at UNM with Suzuki teacher trainer Susan Kempter.  Ms. Alissa maintains a large private studio in Albuquerque with students of all ages in violin, viola and beginning cello.  Her students are in all levels of the Youth Symphony program here and past students have gone on to conservatory level work.  She also has done city-wide festival judging and coaching for APS.  She has completed both levels of Suzuki in the Schools teacher training from the Suzuki Association of the Americas under Laurie Scott.  This training included a cello and bass intensive.  In her spare time, Ms. Alissa attends concerts, reads, hikes and plays with her two dogs: Bitina and Stitch!
