Visual Arts Report

October 7th, 2011

Hello from the Visual Arts Department,

It has been a great start to the year. We have already done a field trip with the 4th and 5th years at Hummingbird. The Art from Nature project went very well.

The Kindergarteners have been learning the Elements of shape and playing with crayons, oil pastels, and watercolors. We explored color theory with modeling clay, self portraits, textures, and cubism ideas. We will continue to explore shape, color, texture, form, and other elements of design.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years have been reviewing color theory, elements of art, and just learned some of the principles of design like unity, emphasis, and patterns. Wee have also looked at the ideas and cubist work of Pablo Picasso and George Braque.

4th and 5th years had a great lesson on art from nature and have been exploring color theory via color wheels including tints and shades. We have just begun learning about foreground, middle ground, and background along with 2 point perspective.

6th years have been doing the same and will be doing more in depth studies in art critique, the elements of art, principles of design. So far it has been a good year. The 7th and 8th years have been reviewing composition of landscapes and reading about Giuseppe Arcimboldo who was and artist in the 16th c. AD.

Due to the ever shrinking spaces at the school, I have no place to store recycled materials so for now, please refrain from bringing any more egg cartons or boxes. Thank you so much for your donations from the past, they really have helped.

Thank you all for supporting the arts,

Mr. John
