TMES Background Check Information & Procedure

TMES Volunteer Requirements
- Each parent that volunteers in the classroom or as a field trip chaperone must get a background check prior to their service. Please complete the background check procedure below or ask for a packet from Ms. Belinda or Ms. Marita in the TMES office. It must be completed before your volunteering begins.
- Confidentiality is essential in all your involvement with students in the classroom. Your observations of individual students in the classroom can not be discussed with anyone beyond the teacher and EA.
Background Check Procedure TMES asks that you complete a Identification Record Request/Criminal Background Check through the FBI unless you can provide a copy of a background check (with fingerprint component) completed in the last 2 years from another public school or entity that requires a federal/state background check. All background checks submitted to TMES will be reviewed by our Administration and approved before the applicant may volunteer at TMES (see temporary exception below).
To obtain a Identification Record Request/Criminal Background Check

What to bring to TMES (to be mailed to the FBI for background check)
We ask that you bring in all of the items below so that we may mail in the background check request for you. This will enable us to keep track of who is sending in a request and will also allow us to give you a temporary pass to volunteer until your background check is returned from the FBI.
- A completed fingerprint card.
- There are two places in town that we know of that do fingerprinting but please choose whatever fingerprinting service you would like. The cost is generally $11-$15. We suggest you make sure that the place you choose is certified and guaranteed, such as the places listed below.

- Please note: We do NOT have a 'ORI number' from the State of NM because we are doing this request on our own (not through the state or APS). If the fingerprinting service you use asks for an 'ORI number' please tell them that we are separate from APS and do not have one, nor do we need one on the form.
- A completed 'Applicant Information Form'
- If you click on the link above, some of the information has been filled out for you. You may fill out this form electronically by typing in the spaces provided (preferred) or you may print it out and hand write in the remaining questions. Please make sure to complete all of the questions!
- Payment of $18 per request
- There are three options for payment to the FBI. You may get a money order, cashier's check or pay by credit card by filling out this credit card form (click here). The cost is $18 regardless of method of payment.
- If you choose to get a cashier's check or money order, make it payable to the 'Treasury of the United States', NOT TMES! Please be sure to sign where required.
Double check this checklist to make sure you have completed all of the steps required by the FBI.
Once you have completed all of the steps, bring in all of the above requirements to the TMES office and we will mail it for you. We request that the results be mailed directly to TMES. We will notify you with a certificate of completion once we have received the results and our Administration has reviewed them.
