Bio:

Ms. Kari has been a Montessorian for 15 years.  She was trained at CMTE/NY and acquired an Elementary 6-12 Certificate. She also works for Center for Montessori Teacher Education/NY, Montana Montessori Teacher Education Institute/ MT and Montessori of the Colorado Rockies/ CO as a Montessori Teacher Trainer and Field Consultant.  Ms. Kari earned a BA in Interpersonal Communications from University of Montana, but quickly changed to education.  She began her career in teaching at Kalispell Montessori Center in Montana. Fourteen years ago she was lured to the Southwest to teach at The Montessori School of Albuquerque, (the former private school) and is reminded how long she has been teaching here in Albuquerque by the fact that two of her former 1st-3rd grade students have graduated from High School and worked as Educational Assistants at TMES in 2008/2009.

As the former Montessori Mentor and Director of Curriculum Development, Ms. Kari has stepped back into teaching. This year she will be teaching in our new Middle School, TMMS. She is also active in educating teachers, parents and students about Montessori education throughout the school. Outside of school, Ms. Kari, her husband and daughter (a 9-12 TMES student!) can be found climbing rocks, skiing, biking, running and enjoying the outdoors.  Ms. Kari also enjoys knitting, reading and keeping up with her yoga and Pilates practice.

Bio:

I am a scientist at heart, as I have spent time in the field working with plants and animals in my studies at New Mexico State University, where I received a bachelors of Wildlife Science in 1999.  From there I launched into an adventure abroad as a US Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines.  During that time I travelled throughout the archipelago and some countries in Asia, I absorbed another culture, shared my environmental knowledge with local villages, and sampled exotic foods (look up Balut if you are interested).  My Peace Corps experience really shaped my understanding of other cultures and peaked my interest in education.

Upon my return to New Mexico I have worked in a variety of volunteer, community-based organizations.  I studied Community and Regional Planning one year at UNM and came to a clear realization that my heart was in teaching.  I received a Masters of Education two years ago from the UNM School of Education.

I feel blessed to have several wonderful people in my life that guided me to Montessori, an education that honors the child in a holistic way.

Outside of teaching I enjoy working out at the gym and cooking.  Fortunately, they are hobbies that are a perfect match.

Bio:

I'm excited and honored to be teaching at TMMS this year. I received my B.U.S. from the University of New Mexico and am presently working on a Masters in Elementary Education which I will complete in December. I am certified in Montessori education. I had worked for over 30 years in the field of medical and forensic toxicology in a hospital setting, state laboratory and in a private laboratory. I found the work stimulating and interesting but felt that a career change may be in order. I taught throughout my laboratory experience and knew I would like to be around the energy and joyfulness of children. Children are the soul of mankind and it is the reason I entered the teaching profession. As you can guess from reading my background, I love the sciences and am excited about teaching our middle school students.

My husband and son provide me with a wonderful family life. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy being outdoors exercising, camping or tending my garden. I have a houseful of pets and love music, as well as involving myself in artistic endeavors.
