Bio:
My name is Maura Nieto, and I am so excited to be teaching kindergarten with our Educational Assistant, Ms. Alissa, at TMES this year! This is my third year at TMES, and I have been an Early Childhood Educator for many years. I received my 3-6 year old Montessori certification through the North American Montessori Center. I also hold NM certifications in Elementary Education and Early Childhood. I am married and have three children, ages 19, 16, and 11. My husband, Roger, is a handyman and operates his own business. Our daughter, Hannah, is a sophomore at UNM, pursuing a career in Nursing. Our son, Dominic, is a Junior in high school at The Learning Community Charter School. Our youngest, Patrick, attends our new middle school, TMMS, and is in the sixth grade. We live on a farm with our cats, dogs, and pigs in Pena Blanca, NM. I look forward to a productive and fun school year!

Bio:
I am so excited to be Ms. Maura's assistant this year! This will be my first year as an assistant at TMES and I am looking forward to meeting everyone. All three of my sons are attending TMES this school year. Joey, 7, will be in Ms. Lisa's class as a second year. Nico, 6, will be in Ms. Lindsey's class as a first year and Isaac, 3, will be a student of TMES' Casita with Ms. Jaja. I graduated from UNM with my BA in English and a minor in Art. Prior to the 2010-2011 school year, I worked as a substitute for APS, an independent child care provider and a volunteer in some wonderful TMES classrooms. I absolutely love spending time with my family, swimming, running, camping, painting and reading!
About This Class:
Welcome to Ms. Maura's Kindergarten class for the 2010-2011 school year! In our classroom community we will learn our letters and their sounds and how to write these letters. We will also learn about books, reading, and how to read. Our curriculum includes learning how to: write our first and last name, how to write appropriately on primary writing paper, the numbers from 0-20 (and beyond!) and their corresponding groups, about the hundred board and how to count by twos, fives, and tens. We will learn about the continents, countries around the world, the United States and New Mexico, about animals and plants and of course how to work together peacefully and take care of our classroom community.
Best regards, ~Ms. Maura's Classroom Community
