This is my second year at TMES as a Kindergarten teacher and I am currently working towards my Montessori certification through North American Montessori Center. During this school year I will also be available as a tutor during the aftercare program. During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, skiing, reading, and spending time outdoors.

Bio:
My name is Michele Martin and I am the new EA for the kindergarten classroom of Ms. Sonia. I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and have lived in New Mexico for 15 years. I have 2 sons who are attending TMMS. My undergraduate degree is in History and I have a K-8 alternative teaching licensure from The College of Santa Fe. I am currently working on my Masters degree in Elementary Education at UNM. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as an EA in kindergarten for 4 years and taught a 4/5 combination class. Last year I worked in the 6-9 classrooms at TMES. My hobbies are reading, beading, gardening and tie dye. I am excited to be in kindergarten and look forward to working with your children.
About This Class:
Welcome to Ms. Sonia's Kindergarten class for the 2011-2012 school year! Kindergarten is a time of new beginnings, of making friends, and of learning lots of new things each and every day. Our days and weeks will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing.
In our classroom community we will learn all about letters and sounds, and will be doing lots of writing activities, too. We will also be learning all about numbers, building on important math concepts including sorting, counting, graphing, classifying, patterns, time and money, measurement, and addition and subtraction. The children are always proud of the work they create and are anxious to share their new skills. Families can help at home by reading to and with their child daily, and encouraging them to write and draw. Young children learn as they play and their play is their work. Research has proven this so. In this context, your child will be learning all of the time this year as he or she joins in the tasks ahead.
Best regards, ~Ms. Sonia's Classroom Community
